Weavers named in 18th and 19th Century Chartularies of King James VI Hospital, Perth
Part Two: 1805-1831
The King James VI Hospital was established in 1569, its remit to raise money on behalf of the "poor and indigent members of Jesus Christ" through the adminstration of the former monastic lands of Perth prior to the Reformation some nine years earlier.
In 1891, R. Milne transcribed the original rental books of the Hospital, covering the 16th and 17th Centuries. The preface to his book contains a potted history of the hospital until the end of the Eighteenth Century, and as such, whilst studying for my Postgraduate Diploma in Genealogical Studies, I decided to take on the next stage for my dissertation. The project analysed the Hospital records for the 19th century, in order to work out the role of the institution as a feudal superior throughout the 1800s. To help on that front, I summarised three full chartularies and three rental books from the mid 18th century to the end of the 19th Century. As on the previous pages, I have scoured the chartularies for all mentions of weavers, and the results are listed below.
